1. My schedule is so busy!  Why do I have to come in and see the counselor once a month?

It is important to keep monthly appointments with the counselor for academic and personal support.  The monthly counseling session serves as a vehicle of communication between Project ASSIST participants and the counselor, particularly in regards to academic status and any problems that may impact your success.  Project ASSIST is a retention program and ongoing counseling is an effective retention strategy.  We want to see you graduate and obtain a high paying job!

2. How do I get travel vouchers?

If you qualify for travel, all you have to do is keep Project ASSIST informed of your current address and notify us if your class schedule changes.  We do the rest!  The amount you receive is based on the number of days you are in class, therefore it is important to let us know if that changes. The Summer semester travel vouchers are handled differently.

3. I have children in daycare.  How do I get reimbursed for child care?

If you qualify, the first thing you need to do is fill out a green Participant Childcare Agreement.  You will need to submit the Childcare Reimbursement form and all your original receipts by the end of each month.  We cannot accept copied receipts.  The Project ASSIST office will process your requests and accounts payable will mail you a reimbursement check.  Summer semester is handled differently, since support is only provided in May and June.

4. I'm going to need books and supplies for the upcoming semester- what do I need to do?

Once you register for your classes you submit electronically, by the due date, a Book/Supply Request Form.  Be sure to fill it out and include your name, student ID number, the course name, number and section you need and the cost of the book you are requesting.  If you require a specific supply for a course, be sure to include that on the form, as well.  You will receive a separate Supply Voucher for basic general supplies.  If a book that you need is not available in the bookstore yet, you will need to let us know so we can purchase it for you.

5.  If Project ASSIST bought me my books, why do I have to give them back?

In a perfect world, Project ASSIST would be able to accept everyone- however, we just cannot.  We ask for the books that you won't be using anymore back at the end of each semester so we can having a lending library.  It is also very important for you to return any items like calculators and tape recorders at the end of the semester so they can be used again.
