Good News

From UBMSC Participants

The following "Good News" comes from Jennifer Wilson, one of our BRIDGE students from Cross High:

I would like to share some good news with my UBMSC family. I've been accepted into Charleston Southern University, and I was also involved in the Black & Silver Pageant where I came in second place. Being a senior has encouraged me to do my best, and that's what I'm doing!

The following "Good News" comes from Allen Latrell Wigfall (who was coronated as "UBMSC King 2005"):

I am in the Prevention Club and I won the title of Mr. Prevention Club; however, I will not be in Cross High School's yearly carnation as Mr. Prevention Club. I ran for the title of Mr. Cross High and even though I didn't win, I will participate in Cross High's yearly carnation as second runner-up for the title. All nine of the candidates were highly qualified to wear the crown. Our high averages and achievements in athletics, the band, and more made us all part of an elite group. Marcus Clark, Gabriel Collier and Johnnie Winston III ran for the title, too, and are also part of that elite group. We also had eight females who are part of a female elite group at Cross High. Four of them are in UBMSC. I will be accompanied by Latasha Taste ("UBMSC Queen 2005"), who is the second attendant of Miss Cross High. Chantay Ravenell won first attendant of Miss Cross High. Keiosha Pinckney and Raquele Pringle are also part of the female elite group.

I am also proud to say that Johnnie, Gabriel and I are taking Teacher Cadet, English 101 and English 102 (through the Dual Credit program with Trident Technical College) this year. In addition to those college classes, Johnnie is taking Calcalus AP and Gabriel and I are taking Band IV. Marcus Clark, Brenda Lee and Jessica Green are also enrolled in Band Honors IV. If the dual credits are transferable, we will have some credit hours when we begin college full-time. Our teacher is on television and is really teaching us from Berkeley. She also teaches Timberland High School on TV. Viola Beauford is also enrolled in English 101 and 102 at Timberland High, and we see her on television on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Also, I am proud to say that I am now the assistant drum major in band! I've wanted the title for a long time, but since I had new, inexperienced players in my section, my band director wanted me, as the section leader, to strengthen their skills. My drum major nickname is "Seductive." Marcus Clark, the trombone section leader, is the president of the band now. With his leadership qualities and his loud mouth, he is without a doubt the BEST BAND PRESIDENT WE EVER HAD! He really does a good job, and I'm proud of him. Gabriel "BUCKWILD" Collier, the old assistant drum major, is now the head drum major at our school. He taught me everything I know and influenced me to develop new ideas. The three of us are the ambassadors of the band, with help from Jennifer Wilson (dance committee leader and head majorette), Jessica Green (flute section leader), and Brenda Lee (bells, a very unique instrument in our band, section leader).

Also, Gabriel Collier is now the president of the Cross High School Omega Team. I am the vice president of the step team. Marcus Clark is the secretary of the step team. However, Marcus' leadership qualities shine when it's time for us to make major and minor decisions. He's like another president of the step team. Together, we are also the ambassadors of the step team.

This is my last year at Cross High School, and I'm leaving with a BANG!
