Requirements and Responsibilities for Students Receiving Veterans' Educational Benefits
Veterans and Service Personnel Assistance
Trident Technical College is approved for all college-related veterans educational programs. If you are a veteran, dependent of a deceased or totally disabled veteran, on active duty, an active reservist or national guardsman, contact Trident’s Veterans Assistance office to help with VA related matters. The Veterans Assistance office is located in the Student Center (Bldg. 410, Room 202), on Main Campus. You may also contact the office via telephone at (843) 574-6105.
Standards of Academic Progress
Veteran students of all types and chapters and SC State Free Tuition Students must meet academic progress standards or risk having their academic benefits suspended. The Standards of Academic Progress for the college are the guidelines used for all students receiving veteran's educational benefits. Please review the standards thoroughly as it is the student's responsibility to understand the requirements.
South Carolina Free Tuition for Children of Certain War Veterans , Police Officers,Firemen or Rescue Workers
Children of deceased or 100% disabled Veterans, who were killed or disabled during military service, can attend any SC State supported institution up until their 26th birthday and pay no tuition/fees. Children of deceased or 100% disabled police officers, firemen or rescue workers, who were killed or disabled while on duty, can go to any SC State supported institution for a total of 4 years and pay no tuition/fees.
Veterans Educational Benefit
Eligible veterans can receive assistance by applying for education benefits through TTC’s Veteran Affairs Office. The following is a synopsis of VA program chapters:
Chapter 30 - The Montgomery G.I. Bill. This program provides educational benefits to individuals that served on active duty. A certified copy of your DD214 is required.
Chapter 31 - Vocational Rehabilitation for Service-Disabled Veterans. This program is for individuals who have a compensable service connected disability, and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs determines that training and rehabilitation services are needed to overcome an employment handicap.
Chapter 32 - Veterans Educational Assistance (VEAP). This is a voluntary contribution matching program for individuals entering service after December 31,1976.
Chapter 35 – Dependents Education Assistance Program. This program is for dependents (spouse or children) of individuals who die or are permanently disabled from service connected causes.
Chapter 1606 – Montgomery G.I. Bill-Selected Reserve. This program is available to members of the Selected Reserve, including the National Guard. A form DD2384 (NOBE) is required.
Chapter 1607 - A Department of Defense education benefit developed to provide benefits for Reservists called to active duty after September 11, 2001 in response to a war or national emergency, as determined by the President or Congress. A member of a reserve component must have served at least 90 consecutive days of more regardless of duty status.

Military and College Transcript Information
All Veterans and students eligible for VA educational benefits are required to provide official copies of all College and/or Military transcripts be sent to the TTC Admissions Office. Your enrollment will be certified to the VA for only two semesters pending evaluation of your transcripts. VA will not pay you to repeat any courses for which you receive transfer credit.
"You may receive credit for selected formal military course work and training. Trident Technical College uses the credit recommendations of the American Council on Education’s Guide for the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services to evaluate both military classroom and experiential training." Each branch of the military now provides these transcripts as follows:
- For the Army the student can go online at http://aarts.army.mil/ and request the transcript.
- For the Navy and Marine Corp the student can also go online at https://smart.cnet.navy.mil/ and request a transcript.
- For Coast Guard the student can go online to this site to download the appropriate form.

- For active duty Air Force, Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve the student may request a transcript by completing Air Force Form 2099, Request for Community College of the Air Force Transcript, available from their education services counselors.

Others may request a transcript by writing the Enrollment Management/Registrar Division (CCAF/RRRA, 130 W Maxwell Blvd, Maxwell AFB AL 36112-6613). Transcript requests must include requester's full name or former name if appropriate, Social Security Account Number, current address including ZIP code, and address and ZIP code to which transcript is to be mailed. The requester's signature is the legal authorization for release of a transcript to the addressee designated in the request. Transcripts sent directly to educational institutions will be certified as official by the CCAF registrar. Transcripts sent directly to students are unofficial copies and will be stamped "Issued to Student." The college does not use the fax to accept requests for transcripts or send transcripts. CCAF transcripts are provided free of charge.
