Success Starts Here
Know your nursing advisor.
Establish a good relationship with your nursing advisor. Your advisors name is listed under My Profile in your TTC Express account. If you do not have a nursing advisor, contact the Orientation Center at 574-6436.
Use your CampusCruiser e-mail for getting questions answered or information clarified from your nursing advisor. This ensures that you have a written record of your communication.
Keep up with important information.
When you have a question, check the nursing web page and the Catalog prior to contacting your advisor or the nursing division. We make every effort to publish the information that you need.
Attend an Open Advising Session every year until you are admitted to the nursing program to stay up-to-date on all program information.
Check the nursing web page weekly for important information.
Check your CampusCruiser e-mail weekly. CampusCruiser e-mail is our primary method of communication with you.
Notify the Admissions Office of any changes in your name, address or telephone number in case we need to reach you.
Always keep copies of every document you submit to the Admissions Office and nursing division. Ask the person receiving the document to stamp your copy with the date received in case questions arise later.
Always know the name and title of the person with whom you communicate.
Always include accurate and complete information. Falsification of any information submitted will make you ineligible for the nursing program.
Practice good time management.
Do not wait until the last minute for anything.
Always register early for best course selections. Many lab science courses close on the first day of registration.
Begin refining your time management skills. It is likely that you will spend 40 56 hours/week in nursing course-related activities.
Start your personal planning now.
Plan your finances prior to enrolling in the program. Review estimated program costs (add link)
Begin figuring out the resources/support available to you during school. For example, who will take care of your sick child when you have to be at the hospital at 6:30 am?
Resolve personal crises in your life before you enter the nursing program. The nursing program is strenuous. You cannot expect to succeed if you add nursing to an already busy/chaotic life. The timing must be right for you.
Ensure that you have reliable child care or adult day care for your parents for the days you have to be at the hospital at 6: 30 am or stay until 11:30 pm.
Ensure that you have reliable transportation. We use every hospital from Summerville Medical Center in Summerville to East Cooper Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.
Find another student who is entering the nursing program at the same time you are and establish a relationship. You can help each other remember the important dates, meetings, etc.
Be sure that nursing is the career for you.
Nursing requires passion, dedication and commitment.
If you have not spent time in a healthcare environment, volunteer at one of the local hospitals.
If you are not sure that nursing is the career for you call 574-6131 and schedule an appointment with a Career Counselor. Ask to take the one of the career inventories (SCOIS, SDS or KUDER).
