WELCOME LETTER

The faculty of NUR 209 wishes to extend a very warm welcome to the Nursing Management of Care III course.  We look forward to being your instructors in the last course of the PN level of the nursing program.

The purpose of this course is to teach students how to successfully manage medical-surgical patients with a focus on the following body systems:  Renal, Reproduction, Musculoskeletal, Nervous, Gastrointestinal, and Sensory (Eye, Ear). You can refer to the syllabus test plan to note information breakdown.

Recommendations for success in NUR 209:
1.         Attend class
2.         Read assigned material before class and come prepared to participate in active learning strategies such as:  case studies, compare/contrast, concept mapping, etc.
3.         Email instructor of lecture content (for an appointment) if you have any questions or concerns.   Please, don't wait until the evening before the test.

For the Fall 2009 semester, NUR 209 clinical days are on Mondays and Wednesdays and classroom on Tuesdays and Thursdays.   So, on Monday, August 24,  you will meet at your clinical site by 7am.   You will be contacted by each of your clinical instructors as to where to meet on that day.  (Weekend clinical information to follow).  You will have orientation to the clinical paperwork and the clinical site on that day.  Your first classroom day is Tuesday, August 25 at 9:10a in 920/791.

To prepare for the first week of class,  read the following musculoskeletal content in Lewis (7th edition):   Ch 62  pp.1618-1628 (Musculoskeletal assessment and diagnostic studies); Ch 63, pp. 1629-1633, 1635-1665 (Fractures, traction, amputation, joint surgeries); Ch. 64, pp. 1668-1672, 1675-1683, 1686-1690 (Osteomyelitis, low back pain, spinal surgeries, osteoporosis); Ch. 65, pp.1693-1712, 1715-1716 (Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout).
The calendar and syllabus will be posted in shared files when they are complete.   Please keep checking campus cruiser.
