TTC course helps homeowners reduce home energy costs

April 12, 2012...

Each year, Earth Day (April 22) marks the birth of the modern environmental movement that began in 1970 and the continued call-to-action for education related to environmental awareness.

Leading up to Earth Day 2012, Trident Technical College’s Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development will offer a course in energy efficiency to help area homeowners make minor changes that may aid the environment and save on home energy costs.

“Reducing Energy Use and Cost” explores the options available to Lowcountry homeowners to significantly reduce energy usage and its costs in this hot, humid climate. The course introduces home weatherization techniques, lighting, appliances, water heating and more. The instructor is a building performance analyst, envelope professional and a South Carolina-accredited commercial energy manager. The course will be held on Wednesday, April 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Main Campus in North Charleston; the cost is $19.

As part of the TTC Green sustainability initiative, TTC offers continuing education courses – including 27 online courses – leading to career in green building, energy analysis and renewable energy. The college is one of seven Energy Efficiency Training Centers in South Carolina to deliver residential and commercial energy analysis courses, national certification exam prep courses and solar PV training.
