May 5, 2010... Trident Technical College has added three new continuing education courses for personal fitness trainers.

Nutritional Concepts for Fitness Professionals focuses on the relationship between caloric intake, caloric burn, weight loss, weight gain and body fat percentages through nutritional awareness. Classes are offered 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 15 and Saturday, Aug. 28. Cost is $99.

Learn how to build fitness programs for mature individuals as well as clients with special needs in Exercise Program Design for Special Population. This course is offered 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 12. Cost is $99.

Advanced Weight Training for Personal Fitness Trainers explains the importance and benefits of alternating exercises for each major muscle group and adding new exercises to your repertoire. The course meets 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 26. Cost is $59. Continuing education credits are available for all three personal fitness trainer courses.

TTC also offers a Personal Trainer Certification course, which provides students with the necessary skills to begin a career in fitness. Offered in conjunction with World Instructor Training School (W.I.T.S.), this five-week course covers anatomy, exercise physiology, nutrition and health screening. Hands-on practical training at Palmetto Fitness Center prepares students to work with clients one-on-one. This course is offered 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays, July 10-Aug. 14. Cost is $549, which does not include books and lab fees. Students are eligible to take the national certification exam after completing the course. W.I.T.S. is a nationally recognized certifying body for aerobics instructors and personal trainers.
