Trident Technical College and the Trident Workforce Investment Board introduced the Community Healthcare Training Program at a luncheon at the college’s Berkeley Campus in Moncks Corner.
Attendees toured the new training lab and met the 16 students in the first class.
“I am so excited about this opportunity,” student Lindsey Wiser said. “My sister works in the field and I can’t wait to join her.” The Community Healthcare Training Program consists of 100 hours of certified nurse aide training, which includes all tasks performed under the supervision of nursing and medical staff. Students learn basic nursing and personal care skills that include patient care and hygiene, safety and emergency procedures, infection control, residents’ rights, feeding methods and elimination procedures, and skin care. The program also includes 160 hours of patient care, providing students with advanced skills needed in hospitals where multi-skills training is preferred or required. Students receive instruction in phlebotomy, blood glucose monitoring, EKG, CPR and Alzheimer’s patient care.
Students who are eligible for the program receive training at no cost with funding from the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). For more information, call Trident One Stop Career System at 888.226.1606.
