TTC AND TRIDENT ONE STOP OFFER CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE AND PATIENT CARE PROGRAM AT BERKELEY CAMPUS

July 30, 2009... Trident Technical College’s Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development and Trident One Stop Career System are offering a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) and Patient Care Technician Training Program at the college’s Berkeley Campus in Moncks Corner.

The program begins Aug. 24. It consists of 100 hours of CNA training, which includes all tasks performed under the supervision of nursing and medical staff. Students learn basic nursing and personal care skills that include patient care and hygiene, safety and emergency procedures, infection control, residents’ rights, feeding methods and elimination procedures, and skin care. Other topics include transferring, positioning and turning methods, dressing and ambulating, range of motion exercises, signs and symptoms of common diseases, and how to care for cognitively-impaired persons.

The patient care technician portion of the program, which is 160 hours, provides students with the basic skills needed in hospitals where multi-skills training is preferred or required. Students receive instruction in phlebotomy, blood glucose monitoring, EKG and CPR certification.

Students who are eligible for the program receive training at no cost with funding from the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). For more information, call Trident One Stop Career System at 888.226.1606.
