April 1, 2009... Trident Technical College’s Department of Automotive Technology will host the 18th Annual Spring Spin-Off Car Show on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on TTC’s Main Campus (7000 Rivers Ave., North Charleston) behind Building 800. This event is free and open to the community.

In addition to the car show, other activities include a pinewood derby, valve cover races and free “make and take” model kits for kids provided by the S.C. Modelers Association. There will be food, music, drawings for door prizes and a 50/50 cash drawing. Trophy awards will be presented at the end of the Spring Spin-Off.

Pre-registration by April 24 is $15; registration after April 24 is $20. On-site registration will be held on May 2 from 10 a.m. until noon. Entries will be capped at the first 250 cars. There is no rain date for this event. Proceeds of the car, truck and motorcycle show benefit the W. Athell Yon Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to TTC students pursuing careers in automotive technology. TTC offers an Automotive Technology associate degree that prepares students to become technicians and supervisors or managers. Several certificates focus on specific automotive areas, including transmission, brakes and alignment, and engine performance and repair.
