Trident Technical College announces the adoption of a new learning content management system for students and faculty--Desire2Learn (D2L). This new system replaces a previously used product and will be implemented for all online credit and continuing education courses starting in January.
The switch to D2L will allow TTC to deliver online courses in a more efficient and effective manner.
“As our online community has grown in recent years, so have the needs of our students and faculty,” says M. Roscoe Thornthwaite, Ph.D., dean, Distance Learning and Broadcast Services. “Students find static pages less appealing and less stimulating than interactive environments.
D2L provides faculty with more tools to provide a rich learning environment for teaching, and provides the students with a more enriched and interactive learning environment for learning,” says Thornthwaite.
Students will have a consistent learning environment from course to course with tools such as blogs, paging, social community tools and more. Faculty will have access to tools that will make it easier to transition information to online courses and tools that aid in retention of students.
TTC offers more than 200 online courses for Spring semester 2009. Online courses and programs include many subject areas such as criminal justice, accounting, medical record coding, introduction to computers, emergency medical technology, foreign languages and more.
