Learn how to use a gun safely and meet requirements for the concealed weapons permit with a course offered by Trident Technical College’s Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development. The Concealed Weapons Permit – Firearms Safety course consists of eight hours in the classroom and two hours of hands-on practice on the range. The course meets 6-10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30 and Thursday, Nov. 1 at the Continuing Education Center (Bldg. 910) on TTC’s Main Campus, 2001 Mabeline Road, North Charleston. Range practice will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2.  Cost is $125. 

The course, which is certified by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, provides the training necessary for concealed weapon permit applicants. Participants receive help completing the application and fingerprinting cards and TTC submits your application to SLED. Participants should not bring weapons and ammunition to the classroom sessions. A weapon and 50 rounds of ammunition are required for the range session.

TTC also offers Basic Handgun Training and Advanced Handgun Shooting Techniques. The basic course is designed for those with little or no handgun experience and is taught by state-certified police officers. It meets 6-10 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30 and Thursday, Nov. 1 at the Continuing Education Center (Bldg. 910). Cost is $49. The advanced course focuses on speed and accuracy as well as how to properly perform the tasks necessary to shoot in a stressful situation. This course will be held at Trader World Gun Range in North Charleston from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13 and Thursday, Nov. 15.  Cost is $79.
