HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS EXPERIENCE COLLEGE IN TTC PROGRAM

September 4, 2007...

Fourteen area high school students are getting a firsthand look at college this fall thanks to the Access and Equity grant program administered by Trident Technical College.

A federally funded program, Access and Equity recruits outstanding African-American high school seniors to take tuition-free courses at TTC for college credit. The students choose a three-hour course to take during Fall Semester.

Participating students are Roahina Bennett, Skyla Holmes and Natasha Wright from Baptist Hill High School; Iesha Thomas and Lauren Gray from Fort Dorchester High School; Omar Brown and Renea Neal from Goose Creek High School; Jamond Blake, Alexandria Jenkins, Ashley Norflect and William Whitehurst from Lincoln High School; and Malinda Daniels, Martina Lomax and Jamine VanDross from North Charleston High School.

To qualify for the Access and Equity program, students must be in the upper 50 percent of their class and have a combined score of more than 800 on the SAT or a qualifying score on TTC’s placement test. Upon graduation from high school, all credits are applicable toward the student’s degree or diploma and may be transferable to another college or university.

For more information, call TTC’s Access and Equity office at 843-574-6771.
