Since SC has no certification requirements for court reporters, graduates of the TTC program are encouraged to seek national certification. TTC Court Reporting Program Graduates should be able to test for NCRA Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) after gaining some work experience. For only $100 per month, TTC program graduates seeking to perfect their speed prior to NCRA certification can continue to use the regular TTC speedbuilding courses for the first year following their graduation. NCRA certification requires candidates to complete the following:
- Shorthand speed - A minimum of three NCRA five-minute tests is required on unfamiliar material with 95% accuracy on Two-voice at 225 words per minute, jury charge material at 200 words per minute, and literary material at 180 words per minute
- Typing/Keyboarding - Two five-minute timed writings from unfamiliar material at a minimum of 60 wpm with a maximum of 5 errors are required.
- Internship/practicum - The completion of 50 verified hours of actual writing time during an internship experience with a working reporter, including the production of a 40-page transcript is required.
- Transcription - A minimum rate of 10 pages of transcript in two hours is required.
